Therapists from all around Ireland have received various levels of training in EFT. There are four main levels of EFT training for professionals, listed below in order from least to most training:
Externship in EFT
Completion of a 4-day externship designed to introduce providers to the basics of EFT.
Additional Training in EFT
Completion of 4-day externship and “Core Skills,”which includes 5 weekend trainings spread out over the course of one year designed to teach the intricate details of EFT.
Certified EFT Couples Therapist
Certification is based on demonstrated mastery of EFT skills and review by the international Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy (ICEEFT).
Certified EFT Therapist & Supervisor
Certification is based on demonstrated mastery of EFT skills and review by the International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy (ICEEFT).

Fiona is an experienced Psychotherapist and Family Therapist, who qualified in Family Therapy in 2003 and has worked with the Genesis Family Therapy Service in Blanchardstown, and in private practice since 2004.
With a foundational background in Education (B. Ed 1986) Fiona augmented her career with an MA Ed in 1997 and qualified as a Career Guidance Counsellor in HDCG in 1998.
Following many years’ experience in this sector, it became apparent to Fiona that many individual problems were rooted in, and stemmed from, within the family and social construction. This inspired her to pursue a qualification in Family and Systemic Psychotherapy.
Fiona has continued to broaden her exploration of therapy practice, becoming one of first practitioners in Ireland to be accredited as an Emotionally Focused Therapy in 2015.

Michael Collender is a graduate of the NUI Galway, where he studied Counselling Psychology, and UCC, where he obtained the MA in Psychotherapy. He is also a fully accredited member of IAHIP. I have a Higher Diploma in Relationship Counselling & an Externship in Emotionally Focused Therapy. I have been counselling for many years and love what I do. I have a great passion for meeting couples / individuals with relationship issues. Emotionally Focused Therapy has given me the skills to assist clients in dealing with their recurring negative patterns and facilitate them to go ‘deeper’ and address their core underlying emotions discovering what is really happening between them.
I love working alongside these clients. The change can be transforming and allows clients to get to that place where they really ‘get’ each other. I understand the need for empathy with each, getting to know where they are at in the relationship and giving them the space and time to listen to each other.
At the end of counselling clients can then believe that there is a positive future together. They have developed the skills to be aware of their behaviour and recognise when they may be slipping back into the negative cycle again. They can then change their behaviours to allow positive interactions where they begin again to hear and understood each other and are able to get their relationship back to where they feel re connected. The negative cycle can be replaced with love, understanding and security.
I feel alive when new clients come with their individual issues, working alongside them as they develop a secure base and a deep connection with each other.
