From Concepts to Experiential Mastery
We all may love and “know” a great therapeutic model, and yet, without practice and experience, our ability to implement the model effectively is limited. EFT Core Skills creates experiential and participative opportunities to deepen your knowledge and skills of the EFT model.
Core Skills takes what you have learned in your Emotionally Focused Therapy Externship and creates a safe and supportive learning environment, allowing you to expand and deepen your confidence, your knowledge, and your own felt sense of what you are capable of when using EFT.
Overview
Core Skills Advanced Training requires that participants have completed a 4-day Externship. Core Skills Training led by a Certified EFT Trainer comprises four 2-day events that occur over the space of approximately one year and are limited to 12 participants or up to 16 if there is a second Trainer or Certified EFT Supervisor leading the group. In the overall context of the EFT Tango, each 2-day session is dedicated to specific steps of the model and the therapeutic tasks and interventions characteristic of those steps. The training includes a minimum of 48 hours of in-depth instruction, practice, and feedback, culminating in a crucial step towards EFT certification.
The Basic Core Skills Training is a reformatting of the Advanced Core Skills to comprise a total of 24 hours of training: 12 hours dedicated to Stage One and 12 hours dedicated to Stage Two. The training can be offered online or in person by an ICEEFT-Certified Trainer. Like the Advanced version, Basic Core Skills workshops are considered core training and one of the requirements for certification in Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy. Applicants for certification are required to attend the full 24 hours. Upon completion of the full 24 hours, trainers will issue Basic Core Skills certificates to participants.
Participants are required to present their own work through audio/videotape presentation. Registrants will be required to declare their professional designation.
Please note: While both the Basic (24hr) and Advanced (48hr) versions of Core Skills qualify toward ICEEFT Certification, participants must complete one or the other. In other words, participants in Advanced Core Skills may not simply stop after 24 hours and receive a certificate of completion. The pacing of the curriculum for each version of Core Skills is not the same.
What will I learn in EFT Core Skills?
• Deepen your understanding of the EFT model and its application in couple’s therapy.
• Develop EFCT skills through a combination of instructional review, skill demonstrations, and live session observations.
• Engage in hands-on practice of EFT techniques and exercises.
• Receive individual feedback on your EFCT skills development via case presentations.
• Delve deeper into the EFT tango, understanding its application within different stages of therapy.
• Apply the EFT model through role-plays and discussions, aiming towards certification.
Who is this training for?
Core Skills training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is designed for mental health professionals who seek a more profound mastery of EFT for couples therapy. This includes psychologists, psychoanalysts, psychiatrists, psychotherapists, social workers, marriage and family therapists, registered marriage and family therapists, counsellors, and specialists in abuse and addiction. Participants are required to be a member of a mental health professional organisation and currently working or in the process of training to work with couples in their clinical practice. Core Skills equips participants with advanced skills in applying EFT’s therapeutic techniques and interventions, which is essential for those on the path to becoming certified EFT therapists.

EFT Trainer: James Parrin (MIAHIP)
James Parrin is the founder of the EFT Ireland Community, an EFT trainer, supervisor and therapist. Before specialising in EFT, James originally studied Process-Oriented Psychotherapy and is a Process Work Diplomate {an internally recognised level of excellence within the more extensive Process Work learning community and the International Association of Process-Oriented Psychology (IAPOP)} and an accredited member of the Irish Association of Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy (IAHIP).
He has a private practice in Wicklow, Ireland, working with individuals, couples, EFT trainees, supervisees and learning groups. James’s focus is on the continuing development of training opportunities and supervision for the ever-expanding Irish EFT community of therapists, their communities and clients.
James has a deep and caring motivation for the transformative nature of relationships. He considers the ability to develop a fluid, relational awareness to be a profoundly psychological and spiritual path. This underlies his love for EFT and the development of a supportive community of therapists dedicated to mastering their relational and therapeutic skills and interventions.
Sharing Your Work:
As a participant in the EFT Core Skills Training, you will be required to share your work with others through an audio or video presentation. This is an essential part of the learning process, which is why Core Skills only accepts a limited number of participants. Each participant is required to present a 15-20 minute video recording of their work with a couple, along with a written transcript. The transcript is needed to keep track of the conversation during the presentation. By watching each other’s recordings, we can all learn from one another.
We understand some of you may not have a recording when starting your Core Skills Training. However, we want to reassure you that this shouldn’t discourage you from attending the training. If you have any doubts or concerns, please get in touch with us. We are always here to support you. [email protected]
Last But Not Least
We aim to foster stronger connections and enhance our understanding of EFT as a community of therapists with similar interests. We value your interest in EFT, and your feedback and inquiries are welcome. To contact us, please email us at [email protected] or via WhatsApp at 00353 87 2029755.
