EFT Core Skills: From Concepts to Experiential Mastery

We all may love and “know” a great therapeutic model and yet, without practice and experience, our ability to effectively implement the model is limited. EFT Core Skills creates experiential and participative opportunities to deepen your knowledge and skills of the EFT model.

Core Skills takes what you have learned in your Emotionally Focused Therapy Externship and creates a safe and supportive learning environment, allowing you to expand and deepen your confidence, your knowledge, and your own felt sense of what you are capable of when using EFT. The Core Skills training takes place over a period of four, two-day modules. Each workshop provides twelve hours of training – forty eight hours in total.

Our EFT Core Skills programme is very much about creating a team of like-minded participants who encourage and support themselves and one another. This will allow you to venture out a little beyond your familiar styles and therapeutic models in order to discover interventions and skills that will enhance your couples’ therapy and practice in general.

In order to optimise your learning, there will be a maximum of 12 participants (or up to 16 participants, if there is a second Trainer or a Certified EFT Supervisor present). Each module will contain instruction and experiential practice according to the guidelines set out by the international Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy (ICEEFT). We will be using videos, PowerPoint, experiential exercises, group work, skills practice, role-plays and sharing case presentations over the four weekend modules.

Eligibility

Participants are REQUIRED to have completed an EFT Externship and be willing to participate in role-plays, skills practice and discussions. You are also REQUIRED to present one video recording of your own work with a couple. This provides opportunities for group consultation and feedback about working with the EFT model and enhances the learning for all (see below for further details). For preparation, we encourage everyone to read “Attachment Theory in Practice: Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) with Individuals, Couples, and Families” written by Sue Johnson.

Goals

The goal of Core Skills Training is to provide EFT immersion in a small group. Training occurs on the following levels:

  • Instruction and review of the EFT model (Stages & Steps & EFT Tango)
  • Demonstration of the skills through exercises and role-plays
  • Discussion of cases as relevant to the content material of workshop
  • Practice of skills through exercises and role-plays
  • Supervision of cases through formal presentation and informal case discussion

Fees:

The fees for each module are €350. A total of €1400.

There are only 12-16 places available on the EFT Core Skills Training. I would really encourage you to book as soon as you can. Please do not leave your EFT Core Skills registration until the last minute, as places are held on a first come, first serve basis.

Paying by Instalments:

In order to book your place on the EFT Core Skills Training, the full payment of € 1400 can be paid. In order to make payments as easy and as fair as possible for everyone who wishes to attend the EFT Core Skills Program, a payment plan may be the easiest option and help to keep your costs down. It is important to understand that if you sign up for EFT Core Skills, you are committing to complete, and pay for, all four modules.

For those wishing to commit to EFT Core Skills, a deposit of €250 is acceptable to hold you a place. In order for EFT Core Skills to be financially viable enough to go ahead however, the full payment for each module will be required prior to the commencement of each weekend (please see below for payment dates).

Sharing Your Work:

One of the reasons that EFT Core Skills only has a limited number of participants is that you are asked to share your work with each another. Each participant is required to present a video recording of their work with a couple. The segment only has to be 15-20 minutes long and must be accompanied by a written transcript. The transcript helps us all keep track of what is being said. Viewing each other’s recordings makes for very good learning opportunities and helps us in our bonding together.

I am aware that some of you are not yet working with a couple; but in order to obtain your EFT Core Skills Training Certificate that is consistent with the requirements of ICEEFT (International Centre of Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy), you will be required to have and present a recording of your work with a couple. Those of you who do have couples and are able to share your work with us, I recommend that you share your work in EFT Core Skills sooner rather than later. If everybody waits until EFT Core Skills Module 4 we will not be able to get through them all in one weekend. PLEASE let me know ASAP when you intend to share your work. This will help me to plan each module. If anyone has any concerns please just contact me. Don’t be put off by the thought of presenting your work, contact me with your thoughts and concerns.
